"I honestly believe that if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, that you are worthy of pursuing your creative passion! And I am making it my personal mission to assist & support you in this process and journey ahead." - Candi Jerkins
How it All Began
Even as a little girl, I had a strong will to work and this unwavering idea of owning my very own business. My weekends were spent running an endless-summer lemonade stand with a dear friend, cleaning my parents house or baby-sitting for the neighborhood kids. Let's face it, I enjoyed working and having my own money. When I wasn't trying to make a buck, I was usually hanging in my room (til the wee-hours of the morning) with a paint brush, creating collages or rearranging my furniture! And now that I own a design business, I can see how those very things that I enjoyed doing as a child, now translate into my everyday job! I have found my passion and I want to help you find yours.
You see, I didn't really know that I was worthy of pursuing my creative passion until after college. I had no idea what to do with my life. I had fallen in love, but wasn't ready to get married or start a family. I was stuck in a state of mind, wondering if I would ever figure out what I "want to be when I grow up". But I took a risk and relocated to a tiny beach town in Alabama to live closer to my sweetheart, whom I had dreamed of ALL my life. I decided to apply for an executive assistant position at a real estate company and start my career in hopes to receive my real estate license in the years to come. I loved my job and my work environment. I had the freedom to create my own systems and the flexibility to enjoy my work. And I had THE most terrific boss.
One day I woke up sick and tired of putting on the same job title and my creative energy was literally bursting out of my soul. I suppose that's what led me to make another bold decision and relocate with my better half to Destin, FL. I was on an adventure, called life, where I was available to jump at any opportunity that was offered to me. I was hired on at another real estate firm, but this time as a Marketing Director. It was during those years I learned I was a creative entrepreneur -- and that I had a lot to learn about business + how to run a successful one of my own. And where I also learned that the dream I once had to own a small business, doing what I loved, could actually become a reality.
After several attempts at starting my own business, all of which never made any money, I started to get frustrated. I often questioned myself and my decision to be self-employed. Why do some businesses never thrive while others become super successful? And what about those business owners with concepts that never go out of style!? That kept me up at night (and the fact that I was teaching myself how to build websites). My burning question was to figure out how to create a sustainable business that makes money, while being authentic, and creative.
Perhaps my story is similar to yours. If so, there is hope!
